Arkansas Blues & Heritage Festival (formerly the King Biscuit Blues Festival)

Well, as thought, a great time was had by all at the Arkansas Blues & Heritage Festival in Helena, AR. The crowd wasn't as large as we had hoped for at the Delta Cultural Center Stage, but they were enthusiastic, none the less. One of the highlights of the weekend was meeting a duo from Wichita, KS - Moreland & Arbuckle. Aaron Moreland & Dustin Arbuckle are the real thing - Aaron's slide work and Dustin's harp and vocals are stuff legends are made of. If you ever get a chance to check them out, it would really be worth your while. Their CD, "Caney River Blues", is exceptional! Check them out at www.kingsnakesblues.com. It was a great experience sharing a set with them on Cherry Street. Another highlight was the Friday night performance of Nashville's own Melissa Sigler. With Shannon "Shan de Bayou" Williford on harp, Melissa showed why she gets rave reviews whenever she plays. Good stuff. Also, running into good friend from Paducah, KY, Lew Jetton, was a nice surprise. Wish he would've been playing, though. He and his band, 61 South, throw down some southern fried Chicago blues like you wouldn't believe! And Colorado's John-Alex Mason is as nice a fellow as he is a great acoustic blues guitarist! There are some shots from the festival on the Photos page - be sure to check them out!
